Whether you’re a new coach or a more seasoned one, getting in your own way is a normal constant as an entrepreneur. I could even bet that most (if not all) of your business struggles right now are pretty much because you’re blocking your own path to massive success. You may be struggling with paralyzing fear, devastating imposter syndrome, or old procrastination habits that are keeping you from consistently showing up to your fullest capacity.
Before we move on to getting out of your own way, I need you to understand one simple truth:
Getting in your own way is NORMAL and it happens to everyone!
You could be at a stage where you have no clients (yet) or you’re finally hitting those consistent 10K months, either way, you’ll get in your own way more often than you’d like to admit – we all do. Getting in your own way is the blessing and the curse of being an entrepreneur. As a coach growing a profitable business, you have to constantly stretch out of your zone of comfort to get to the next level, so being your own biggest block is standard.
With that said, let me offer you this perspective.
What if… Instead of driving yourself crazy trying to never experience ‘self-blocks’ you could actually master the art of getting out of your own way quickly, painlessly, and effectively?
So much more relieving than having impossible ideals, right?
So let’s dive into today’s blog, where I’ll share with you exactly how to get out of your own way & make more money.
First things first, your vision needs to be grander than your fears
Fact – you will inevitably be scared to hop on some sales call, launch your first group program, and raise your prices. Also fact – you have the capacity to let that fear derail you or not. What I see so many coaches do wrong is let their fear dictate their actions. While busting through your fears is going to require a ton of internal work, one thing that could help you is have in place a vision grander than the fears. When you have a bigger vision as your north star in your business, you’ll have something to keep moving towards DESPITE the fears that may be coming up along the way. Your vision could be anything from getting out of debt to leaving the world a better place than you found it. It doesn’t matter, dive into your heart and determine what your own big vision is.
Thou shall not compare yourself to others
Make this your own business commandment. Comparing yourself to people who are further ahead and seem to have it all figured out based on their Instagram feed, is not only a huge personal block but a great source of suffering as you grow your coaching business. What I’m asking you to do here is hard, but if you want to get out of your own way it must be done. A super powerful step that will help you move past your own limitations is to put blinders on and stop comparing yourself to others. Once you do this, you’re committing to CARVING your own path rather than letting the negative feelings that come from unnecessary comparison keep you on your tracks.
Give yourself permission to get the right support
Here’s the thing, getting out of your own way requires an immense amount of internal and external work. Don’t you ever wonder about all those stories of coaches who achieve wild success once they hire the right coach? More times than not, this happens because the right support will help you navigate the choppy waters of building a business. I come from a family of entrepreneurs so giving myself the permission to invest in the right support was easier than it is for most people. That’s because we look at business and we think ‘I’ll invest in the support when I get the money’ but the reality is that a lot of times businesses require investment (whether is time or money) BEFORE you see the results. The #1 reason why I see so many coaches in my community feel stuck, is because they don’t have someone by their side helping them move through their doubts and focus on the right strategies that will accelerate their growth. I can’t even begin to tell you how many of my clients come to me after months or even years of trying to build a business on their own and it’s not until they get the right support that they start making sales and money. So give yourself the permission to invest in the RIGHT support (whether that’s a coach, a tool, or a team member) to move through whatever block you may be putting in front of yourself.
And for the love of all things business, don’t make yourself wrong if you’ve gotten yourself in a bit of pickle. Entrepreneurship is filled with consistent blocks that come from within us – that is the normality of growing a coaching business not the irregular flaw.
