Whether you’ve been thinking of starting a free group to grow your first community or to use a group to run your third group program, a group that is started right can change the name of the game in your business.
If you’ve been contemplating the idea of starting your own online community, let me tell you 3 important steps that’ll help YOU Start a Profitable Group:
1. Your group name, cover photo, and description are everythinG
When you first start your group, you have no social proof (aka not having any members), which is why these three major components are imperative to your long-term success. These are the three areas that your soon-to-be members will see and the three areas that will help them decide if they’re going to click that ‘Join Group’ button or exit out.
Not only are these three components major real estate of your group but they are also what will tell Facebook what your group is about and who it’s for. Which at first may not feel like a big deal, but the more your group grows the more Facebook wants to promote it for you (can we say FREE marketing? 🎉 ), which means that a clear group description and niched name will help the Facebook elves position it in front of the right people.
2. Create content before you even have any members
If you order a big piece of furniture, you’ll open up the space in your home to receive it because you know it’s coming, right? Well it’s the same idea with a Facebook group. At first you may experience all the pesky doubts and negative beliefs such as ‘what if nobody joins?’. The reality is that if you want to start a profitable group you need to believe that the group has an immense capacity for growth and set it up for success from the beginning.
What that means is that you’ll need to create some pre-content to get ready to awe the indisputable flow of new group members. Yes, this means showing up for your group even before you have one member. This is so that when those members do start to roll in, they’re excited to be in your group from the start and become raving fans and long-term engaged followers.
3. Decide what showing up consistently for group looks like
A mistake I see a lot of new group leaders make is that they show up inconsistently for their brand new space. Maybe they go all in for a month and disappear for a few weeks. This is the worst thing that you can do if you want to accelerate your group growth and success.
From the very start I teach my clients who start a group to create a consistency plan that works for them. Open up Asana, a Google Doc, or your favorite journal and write down what that’s going to look like for you. You’ll want to incorporate things such as how many posts you’ll be delivering per week and how often you’ll be live streaming. Go as deep as you can by adding specific times, days, and productivity hacks like including a workflow for scheduling your posts.
Remember, to start a profitable group, you must start with profit in mind and these three steps will help you do just that.
